In this post, we show you how to paint a fun and colorful rock featuring a rainbow with a cloud (and, with just enough sparkle).
We started with clean, dry rocks and primed our rocks with different colors. Landscape supply centers are our go-to resource for smooth river stones, but check our guide for where to get rocks for rock painting for more ideas.
We like to use acrylic paint because it dries quickly and often times only needs one coat (sometimes yellow, pink and orange need a second coat).
How cool do these look just primed?!
Paint pens in all colors of the rainbow
Our goal was to make 100 rainbow rocks, so we were looking for a simple design that we could make fairly quickly.
Once we primed all the rocks in various colors, painting the rainbow was really easy because we used paint pens. There are so many paint pens on the market. Check our guide for paint pens compared and reviewed. For these rainbow rocks, we used Posca fine tip paint pens. They're a bit pricier than some others, but ours have lasted years and have been well worth the investment.
